Modding Hi-Fi speakers for PA system?

Hi all,

I was wondering, would it be possible to rewire a set of old hi-fi speakers to fit to a standard PA system? What would that entail? And more importantly, would it sound reasonably decent or just sound like crap?

Hi-fi speakers are typically about 10 dB less sensitive - which means it takes ten times as much power to reach the same average level. They also typically don't have enough excursion or thermal power handling to allow that to happen when you start to get into the SPL needed for live performance.

not to mention that they´re propably low wattage, and thus would sound like crap. durability on the road would also be an issue, as they are designed to be used in a living room... i.e. not worth it.

the first kick drum hit would likely pop them. it's a completely different kind of speaker.
