Modding my squier, need an opinion. No, Really, Help me.

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm modding my squier that I've had for many years now. I put a Warmoth fretless neck on it last summer, and while I was putting the hardware back on, the screws stripped, because they're crappy. So I replaced all the screws on the head and the pickguard with brass screws. I thought this was awesome, but alas, my guard is white, so the effect is lost, I think so any way. So, In continuation on this theme, Im looking into Gold hardware (cause brass is HARD AS HELL to find), and a black pick guard. So, my question is, should I go with a gold bridge, or a black one? I think Either would look cool, but, then again, I have no Idea. Also, what make of bridge should I go for? I do a lot of jazz playing on this thing, but I like to keep a more mellow sound... yeah. Hope this post wasn't too jumpy... just looking for some opinions.

It's not my bass so I won't comment on what color hardware you should use but if it were me I would be inclined to use matching hardware. As for a mellow tone, some bass players swear that they've heard huge differences in their tone and sustain by switching to a bridge with more mass and to them I say great, However, that hasn't been my experience. I think that their are differences but I also think that they are minute. I would have to concentrate very hard to hear them. So, if I were you I would select a bridge based on it's functionality rather than what tone you think it might give you. Two of the more recommended bridges are the BAII and the Gotoh 201. The 201 costs a bit less and some say it is just as functional as the BA. I'm thinking about putting one on my MIM J fretless. I think you'll be able to find the tone you're wanting regardless of what bridge you choose. For a mellow sound you may want to find yourself a good set of flatwound strings if you haven't tried them already.

everybody has their own likes or dislikes.

If I would be a building a bass to look neat, I'll put matching hardware.

If I would be building a bass to play on a funny band (say ska or funk) I'll paint the american flag on it. Blue tuners, white bridge, red pickups
