Modding Squier Affinity P bass

I must assume that people that trash the Affinity have actually had bad experiences with them. Fortunately I have nothing but good experience.

The best thing I found on my $60 AFN was the body looked new, and the neck was sweet. In fact, I cannot tell the difference between MY Affinity neck and the Vintage Modify neck, so I wonder if the manufacturer used the same ones. My AFN is from Indo and I only found the PG and electronic to be crappy. The tuners are excellent as well, so the only original parts on mine are: body, neck, 3 tuners (because of the Hipshop Drop d).

Personally I can’t think of a better platform to mod than the Affinity, because parts are plentiful and many times cheap. I’m surprised that you think the neck is crappy, is this because you just don’t like the feel of a P? What year is yours and where was it made?

Bottom Line, I says go for it. Personalize your own bass, and you’ll be glad you did.

Here’s what I did:

o Hipshot drop D tuner
o 50’s Fender Precision decal sealed with satin acrylic
o Custom nut crafted from dear antler
o 60’s RI electronics
o Dome Precision knobs
o Precision Ashtray Bridge Cover
o Aluminum tape shielding
o Limited Edition Custom Series Neck plate with serial
o Switchcraft output jack
o 3-ply Parchment Pickguard
o Lindy Fralin pup
o Goto 201B Bridge

I don't know if it was worth all it to mod, but I learned a lot about what I do like. I enjoy it a lot now and can't imagine selling it (nor would I be able to), but you could just save and get the bass you want instead.

Hi all, I have a decent quallity Affinity, I bought it so cheap I can do some modding. First I'd like to switch the single coil with a humbucker. And change the split coil with a decent one (SD or Aguilar?). Is the humbucker part easy?

Second I would like to get rid of some weight, will it be helpfull to change the hardware into Hipshot Ultralite ?

kind regards,
Geert
