Anyone have opinions on this model? Somebody is selling it out here for $75 on craigs and I'm relatively broke, but could probably swing it if the bass is getting positive reviews all round.

A BBN5II maybe? I have a BBN4II and its one my favorite basses.

If it's in any kind of shape at all, that's a good deal. If worse comes to worse and you don't like the sound you can upgrade the electronics.

I'd definitely pay $75 for it.

Yamaha stuff is always good, albiet a little generic. $75 if it plays OK is great.

Even though that bass is one of the low end yamaha basses, at $75 it is an EXCELLENT value. I have one of the older ones, with the single coil jazz pickups, for which I paid about $140. It is the perfect "never sell it, worth much more to ME as an instrument than its cash value" thing. Doubt I will ever sell it. Again, not that it is the best bass ever, just that for what I could get for it, it isn't worth selling.

buy it. if you don't like it you can relist it for more and get your money back. It would, IMHO, be a good investment.

Yeah, I believe the BBg5 has jazz pickups.
Those yamahas play great. If you like the feel, it's well worthwhile.

OP, you could sell it for double the price it currently is and you would still be offering a great deal.

Thanks to everybody that responded. I was inclined to believe that it was a good deal based on my postive experiences with Yamaha gear in the past and everybody definitely backed up that assumption. Sadly, the thing already sold. Regardless, somebody got a good deal and I honestly didn't need another bass anyway, haha

Its a great bass, my friend used to have one, i loved playing it. a tad heavy, but still a great instrument.

I emailed the seller before I put the thread up here, but the ad was already about a day old and I just got an email back a few ours ago telling me the bass had already sold.

Just ran across this thread. As other have already confirmed, this is indeed a BBN5II model. I used to have one in black. It was my first 5-string. I paid around $400 plus tax, new. All I did was have a Seymour Duncan Basslines 3-band preamp installed and that thing had tone for days. Very thick and chunky. I used it live and on many recordings with great results. There were some minor things one could nit pick; some of the hardware showed wear sooner than I thought, and I had to have some fret leveling done but these were minor. For $400, it's a heck of a deal. But in the end, GAS got the better of me and I moved on to other 5-strings. But I still think about that bass as the one I regret selling.

Keep your eyes out for another one used. You can probably find one for a good price.
