Moderately priced 5-string for metal. suggestions?

Nah, it was too fine. I wouldn't say "too clear" but maybe "too pure" is a better term. I like the stiletto, but I would never use it for metal.

Great basses for the money, if you like the wider spacing, bigger bodystyle, etc. The 3-band EQ with variable midrange is a godsend for cutting through distorted guitars, too.

I'd say go for a Yamaha BB615 or 415, depending on whether your tastes/needs dictate active or passive.
