/\I have to agree with the "what happened to country" sentiment here. Big fan of that music from as old as it gets to losing interest somewhere in the '90's.
To me, what they're pushing as country now, is either glorified rap, brittany spears with a fiddle player, or '80's hairband stuff with a fake southern drawl. And yeah, the lyrics are braindead.
Like many things, it's over-the-top commercialized. There's some formula that sells, so they push 1000 more songs just like that one and ignore the rest.
Maybe someday it'll come back around.
Going to listen to some Don Williams now......aahh.....that's better.

WHAT HE SAID!!
As far as more recent country goes, I do enjoy Kathy Mattea, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Randy Travis, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn and such, people who keep it honest and real as well as the old classics.
It's dreck like Big and Rich, Billy Ray Cyrus and the like that gives modern country a bad name.
