Modern-Punk Basses

Hey guys, I was talking to my dad (a fellow bassist) about basses that are great for modern-punk type band aside from fenders (both our fav basses are P-basses with J necks and one J pick up)

I was wondering, what are some great basses, tone and playability wise for that type of music?

I'm talking about the Brand New, Blink-182, Taking Back Sunday, and fall out boy bands, those bands tend to have really really good bass tones (yes even pete wentz chugs out a great bass tone, IMO)

So what are some other brand basses aside from Fender that can pump out this quality and a really thick, gritty, and consistent? Thanks in advance.

LOVING this tone!! very warm, it'd be nice if it had a LITTLE more bite or growl to it but its a nice deviation for the cookie cutter P-bass

Thats not being a troll. It was a serious question. Punk to me is fast,heavy riff-driven music,that simple,with blunt lyrics about government,society,and people. Maybe I haven't heard enough fall out boy to know their lyrics..

well im not even a big fan of FOB... just like the bass tone

and yeah that's classic punk man, and I do like that too, like PiL, Suicidal Tendencies, DK, but I just prefer the music of my generation (post-9/11 "punk" bands)

Just realized that you already have a stingray,so an ATK probably wont be that big of a difference for you. Really it just comes down to what feels good. Just about any bass sounds good for any style of music. Punk bass tone to me = hot and grindy. Maybe check out thunderbirds.

yeah i was looking up vids... very similar to music man, i think more dull actually.. i might just go with a P-bass for my next bass, straight up. or maybe a T-bass with a humbucker...
