Modern Vantage Basses

I spied a vantage fretless in natural finish at my local guitar shop just now. no model number, strung with rounds. sounded okay when I played it, but Im pretty new to bass so I'm not exactly the best judge for sound. Background in violin so Im quite confident of intonation and vibro but anyway,

yeah, anyone has any thoughts on Vantage? The headstock has just a V sign there.

Not nearly as nice as the old Japanese versions. And the old ones are fairly inexpensive at that.

means that theyre decent? haha where I hail from (Singapore) you can't find the old ones.

I was considering the Squier VM Fretless but its twice as expensive here (620 =.=, infuriatingly high compared to everything Ive read here).

But yeah, I have a bad ear for sound in bass, pretty inexperienced there..
