Modern Wall Hanger

Haha, this is a team effort with the fiancee.
The room is very modern and the basses I want to hang albeit vintage, will definitely fit the vibe.

We need photos of the living room with furniture, etc, in place to provide you with your best options. Do you mean very modern, as in, bland, characterless modern?

I would start with getting rid of the speaker stand, would look cleaner on the floor.
The normal hangers aren't really too visible with the bass on them. How about adding some lighting in line with the rest of the room? Maybe a beam up from behind the amp in the corner, or some spotlights beaming down onto the basses?

Ah, this shot is from a different room.
They do make hangers with accent lights now, but it's not the style we're going for.

For the cleanest look, get a regular picture hook that is rated for 50 lbs. or more
Take a strong cable tie and connect it so there is about a 2" circle.
This will then wrap around the top tuning peg and then attach to the hanger.
Easy drywall repair when she changes her mind and the woman folk tend to allow them up longer when the instruments float without some hanger thing on the wall.

I did a Beatles theme with Höfner and Vox. Cut some Höfner curves in a length of bird’s eye maple and attached Hercules locking hangers. Not modern, but might spark other theme ideas.

You can mount straight to the wall, or to a board or something.

They are cheap and work great, although I used sheet rock screws and made sure I was in a stud and drilled pilot holes, but that's because I'm obsessive about stuff like that.

It looks like your're in an older home. A couple butcher block table tops finished with a non reflective surface and mounted 18-24 inches apart with the basses hung on them and the amp between should tie things together nicely.

I like "off the wall" brand hangers. Be sure to hit a wall stud when you put up your basses, or they will hit the floor....

This is the wide neck version. If you don't need that, they make other kinds.

well, something like this doesn't require much technique. Instead of going for a rustic aesthetic, keep the milk-paint palette but just take it in the direction of a Mondrian painting (lines, and blocks of color):

I kid, I kid. Dreadful and ugly. I'm sure it's a pure coincidence that after I hung my basses in the living room with slotwall and hangers, I was divorced in a year. Yup. Coincidence.
