I'm quite sick of the control plate switches on my hofner. they tend to get scratchy sounding when switching on or off. Last week one pickup totally stopped working. A little contact cleaner sprayed into the control plate brought it back to life, but in short . . .
I'd really rather just have two volume knobs controlling my pickups. has anybody ever bypassed all the switches?

I wouldn't mess with what that bass is. The Icon is a great bang for the buck and sounds no different than the higher priced Hofners. It's just made a little more cheaply. (Keeping in mind, they were always somewhat cheap basses). Just get the wiring repaired well and be done with it.
