Mods vs. American Std. Precision

Hello. Your collective expertise would be greatly appreciated.

My "dream bass" has been an American Standard Precision, and I've been saving bit by bit for one.

A few months ago, for helping him move, a neighbor gave me an Affinity P bass (made in Indonesia, alder body). So far I've installed new pots, a Quarter Pounder Pickup, a new pickguard, and on Friday my Badass II bridge will arrive. The bass sounds pretty darn good through my G-K MB115.

My question is this: Considering the mods I've done, how much better of an instrument will I have if I get an American Standard Precision?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Brett.

You can answer this by playing a MIA Fender yourself and comparing it side by side. If you like your modified bass, play it and do not worry about it. Find a used MIA in the future and your modified bass could be a great backup or the MIA will be the backup! HA!

You will get opinions going both ways on this - your opinion is the MOST IMPORTANT.

To be honest, you won't get the bug out of your head until you buy an American P Bass. I've found that although modding is fun and works well, there's something about saving up for, selecting, and finally buying your dream bass. Plus you'll always be wondering 'what it?" That's not to say your current bass isn't good, but I do find there's a vibe with the proper fenders that you just can't quite get from another brand (that is, if you get a goodin').

The nice thing about the mods you've done is that you could easily port them over to a P Bass if you wanted to. Also, if you get a bit over the Precision and want something different, the resale value will keep a lot higher; no matter how many mods you do to a copy bass, people won't see past the brand name.

TL;DR Keep saving for the P Bass, you'll be happy that you did.

The mods youve done to the one you have now make it better then a stock amercian fender P imo. Theyre the types of mods Id make to a american fender if I had one. With possible exception of keeping the stock new fender bridge if its the high mass one some of the fenders are shipped with now.
