OK, i've asked similar questions before but i have now determined that i do indeed want a modular (1 trip) rig and Avatar will be my cabs of choice powered by my Genz Benz NeoPak 3.5.. Most of my gigs are and will be church, small bars, and very few outdoor shows. Most should have PA support. After playing through this Ampeg cab of my buddies (BXT-410 HL4), I have come to the conclusion I am anti - scooped tone. No matter how many knobs i tweaked i couldn't get my tone through that cab. So anyhow my ideal tone is Jon Paul Jones in early Led Zeppelin albums. I currently run the NeoPak through an Avatar B212 and LOVE it but i am downsizing with the hopes of being able to leave two cabs at different practice locales and then combine them for shows. My options are two Avatar SB112 @ 4ohms each with i think would be most like my current cab but a bit deeper :hyper: and from what I understand plenty loud.. Or an Avatar B210 @ 4 ohms and an SB112 @ 4 ohms which I imagine would be a bit punchier... Can anyone recommend one way or the other? Which combo do you think would achieve my tone goals? Anyone have experience with either or a similar combo by a different manufacturer? Thanks in advance for responses, i really appreciate the input.

I'm not familiar with Avatar cabs...I see a lot of info in TB about them, but I've never used or even know anyone that uses them...Having said that, I voted for the 2x10 + 1x12 setup...just because I think it would provide you with a bit more tonal flexibility.

+1. I run a similar setup using a Neo Pak - a 210 and 115. lotsa punch and thump at the same time. Yummy.

Not having played these particular cabs, I'm reluctant to weigh in. But on the basis of what I know about cab design & performance, I suspect that the 2 x SB112 setup would indeed offer you the benefits of the vertical array synergistic effect (i.e. total output - especially lows - being greater than the sum of the individual cabs, measured separately).

Since you're going for the early John Paul Jones tone, I think that the dual SB112s would be the way to go. From what I've read, they have a modest drop-off in the upper mids (gap between the upper range of the woofer and the lower range of the horn), but I don't know if it would be significant or even noticeable.

Going the B210 + SB112 route would likely get you some additional midrange punch. But you might lose a little, relatively speaking, in the lows. So if the SB112s have sufficient mids for you already (on the basis of your experience with the B212), then I'd say your decision is pretty straightforward.

I don't know these cabs so I can't help much, but have you considered getting another 2x12? I mean, if you like the tone you have now as it is, it'd probably be cheaper to keep the 2x12 you have now and get another, keep one in each practice space, and still just take one of the two to gigs.

Unless you're hoping to get some different tone. Then never mind.

well my idea is to get two 4 ohm cabs to utilize the 2 ohm NeoPak load and i really want this set up to be easy to maneuver. The B212 is a great cab and not too heavy at all but it is a bit wide and akward to carry..

I have this exact set up. GB Neo 3.5 and Avatar 112+210.

Each cab by itself is good, but the combination really nails it. I get a nice even response across all strings/positions and have no problem hearing every note I play (sometimes that's a bad thing)

Mine are both 8 ohm cabs. I bought them not knowing I would get the GB 2 ohm head.

Beware the neo 112 handles 250 watts and your head will be putting out 350 watts at 4 ohms. This may be OK if you don't push the head, but it would make me nervous.

I've considered buying another 210 avatar, this one in 4 ohms and running it all together, but then I realize that I'm plenty loud as is and really don't need it.

I had a pair of the SB112s but they were the Delta LF instead of the neos and also an Eden 210XLT.I would mix and match most of the time running the 210 and one of the 112 cabs.The 210 with one 112 gave me the best all around tone and volume,the 210 did the mids better than the 12 cabinets and the 12 cab added some lows to the whole rig.I tried the two 112s together a few times but I liked the mids better with the 10s in the mix and that setup gave me all the volume I needed anywhere.I would stack the 210 on its side on top of the 112 cab and that would put it at a height that I could hear well and it vertically alligned the drivers,although I didn't really notice if the dispersion was better across the stage,it just was easier to hear at that height.My vote is for the 210/112 setup for sure.The 210 would be a bit louder and a better stand alone cab than the 112s I'd think.

i love the 1x12+2x10 setup idea. im going for a similar thing with older epifani nyc cabs, although i have a 1x10 and 1x12 now, id like to get a 2x10 in the future to add to it. in other words...a modular approach to the bergentino ht 322...great choice in my opinion.

I don' know if this would affect your decision but does anyone have the specs on the Avatar cabs
?
I didnt get a response to an email I sent them and I don't see any info on the website.

I've been gigging a pair of 4 ohm SB112 Neos for about a year and a 1/2. It's definitely been a joy when it came to loading/unloading. Great portability. They offer plenty of stage volume, have an abundance of mids and could perform great in a no P.A. small bar scenario. I always do FOH gigs, so stage volume is my only concern for these cabs. I never paired a 210 with the B112 so I don't really have anything to add although I do have an SWR Goliath jr 2I0 and should take the time to try that combo. Lately I started pairing one of my SB112s with my B212 Neo and am totally set now. As far as early JPJ tone, I'm confident your Neo Pak's preamp could get you into the zone. Buy 'em, IMO.
