Yo! Any Vertex's floating around? Should have bought one of the two that were up a month ago....doh
Yeah, just now checked, there's one on reverb.
Seems like the average cost for any kind of modulus bass is about 3k, maybe just north of that. Minus that 7k 3 pu whatever it is.
Saw that. Nah I disagree on price. People can ask what they want but....VJ's, Q4/6 and vertex all go under 2k. There were just two vertex'es for 1400 and 1500 recently. Kicking myself for not grabbing one.
That one on Reverb looks like the seller is Planet Bass' outlet store or something... hope all is well, it ain't easy running a brick and mortar retail store these days...
Pricing is pretty much all based on what the others are listing for, it seems - not necessarily on what they're selling for.
They need a Kelly Blue Book for music gear that can parse worldwide actual sales figures from various sites. I think that would help keep pricing in a relative universe.
There used to be some kind of “market value” book for musical instruments and such, I remember GC used to have to pull it from out back (and the clouds would part and a beam of light from the heavens would come down and hit it

Yeah, I think that whole market value guide is long out the window. Prices are way up there. Used to be a bass would never sell for more than it was new (obviously exceptions). A Vertex sold new on Musicians Friend for $1500. I saw one currently on Reverb for $3,000 (hysterical). Actual selling prices are around $1800. Not to mention that early 1980's Neck Thru listed at $7,500
There are far too many Reverb overpriced dinosaurs that have been listed for months or overseas - that when new listings come up, people think, "Oh sweet, a 30 year old Modulus with paint chips and a delaminated neck - $4,497.00 - Mine has fewer paint chips, so $4,997."
I look at Reverb as another online retail outlet.
As evidenced by the number of other online retailers selling new inventory alongside resale items. With, I think, the side effect of driving up resale market prices. There's even a 1988 MusicMan Stingray listed for 1,400 which is in fact not a 1988 Music Man Stingray. So buyers should be cautious. Even sellers on low end Facebook Marketplace and even Craigslist tend to want to overprice their used items in an attempt to fit the spiraling inflation narrative. Although It may also sit for months with no movement.
In actuality the market value of any item, be it a
1995 Wal Mk1 or a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT California
Is solely based on a number of factors but primarily based on what it is worth to any particular buyer who has the bucket list and resources to back it. Even pawn shops still do have a blue book they refer to when deciding how much to offer on a pawn or sale item. It is what it is.
With prices like that a person is way better off buying a brand new TBX Thru-Body directly thru Modulus Graphite!!!!
I have 2 Modulus basses getting plek’d this week. I guess I’ll find out if it was a waste of money or if it plays even better. They didn’t play bad at all, but felt it could be better. The shop is crazy nice, they have to unlock the door for you coming in and going out leaving.

LOL! Coincidentally I was cleaning out the file cabinet in my studio the other night, and I came across the original receipt for my Quantum-6 SPX, which I ordered in 1988. I think I might be able to get a hard case for a Quantum for that same price nowadays...maybe.
I recently bought a q6 from 1996 and it included the catalog from that year. If I’m not mistaken they cost like 3k which when I put it into an inflation calculator is close to 5k which is what they cost now.
changed my perspective on it a bit. I guess they’ve always been expensive?
Either way 5k is just such a crazy amount of money to spend on a bass
