Modulus or G. Gould?

Jerry of Graphite Guitar Systems was a co-founder of Modulus with Geoff. Jerry makes his own graphite necks and supplies some to other builders. I myself worked for Jerry and Geoff at Modulus in the late 70's early 80's.

Full disclosure Jerry is my brother.

Hey Robj,
Jerry is in Oakville(near Centralia). Your right about the pickups, the bass originally had Bartolini's and active Bart preamp. You can see in one of the pics the original pU's and all the knobs. I came to realize that I prefer a more old school tone so I put in Nordstrand Big Singles(custom ordered to fit the Bartolni shaped routes and 18mm spacing) and passive VVT, which I love. My new bass that Jerry is just now finishing up for me will have thr Nordstrand Big Splits for times when I really need to buck the hum.

BTW, I sent my old Barts and pre back to Jerry to use if someone wanted to use them in a bass and save some money.

Thanks for the response, good info. I once spoke with a guy in or near Seattle who was making Modulus replacement necks. That was probably 5 plus years ago and I lost his contact information. As I recall he worked at Modulus back when and was working at building his own line of basses though I don't know if that ever happened. Anyway that's why I asked if Jerry was in Seattle.

The cost for GGS instruments is more affordable than the other graphite necked mfr's. As far as build time you need to ask Jerry, mine's at about six months, but he had to wait for the pickups to come in and since I'm getting the "little brother discount", it's not on the top of his priority list.

My understanding is Jerry will be increasing his efforts on instruments. He has a lot of other mfr's that he does finish work for and supplying graphite necks for. Also he is planning on getting a website up too. He would like to build a few basses up in stock first so there would be some available for immediate purchase.

Jerry is kind of low key and has been real busy with the finish work and making necks for others. You can get a hold of him at 360-273-7744. My bass that I posted the pictures of is 18mm. My new one that he's building now is 19mm. I know when he ordered my Nordstrand Big Splits, he ordered a set of Nordstrand DC's and an active pre for a spec. 5 string build.

It's hard to find information on Jerry and GGS, do to him not getting on the web and being real laid back. I can say that from the beginning to early 90's Jerry and his crew(which included me in the late 70's early 80's) did most of the building and finish work portion of the Modulus instruments. Also one of his main finishing clients is Mike Lull(As he mentioned in the "Meet your maker" article in BP.
