Finally getting around to posting this warning - if you're considering ordering an MOG Baby Bass (from Columbia), think twice. At the end of the day, I got a nice instrument but it was an enormous hassle.
It's more or less a copy of an Ampeg 5-string baby. The bass arrived in a flimsy cardboard box with zero padding, just packed in a dust cover. No surprise - it had a broken volume pot and damaged endpin. The maker refused to take any responsibility for the disgraceful packing job and blamed FedEx and the customs officers in Columbia. Fedex was kind enough to partially pay for the repair costs. I ended up having to get a custom-made endpin, new tuners (the ones on the bass were junk) and major fingerboard and setup for a total of about $500. I was also shipped a wooden bridge when I requested a metal bridge, and it took about two months to get the proper bridge sent to me. Recently, I was shipped a replacement pickup that was supposed to be sent to another customer. Similar to my situation, the maker didn't seem to give a **** and we dealt with it ourselves.
After all the hassle, I'm really happy with the bass if someone buys it from me they will greatly benefit from all my suffering. The bass sounds like an Ampeg with a little bit more of an upright tone. I'm using Labella tapewound strings. Let me know if you have any more questions about my experience or the bass. And ignore any poorly-worded messages from the maker on this site. The guy is simply not professional.
