Mohs surgery

Have generally bad skin but one small
Site on my forehead bled every day

Thought I was brushing my hair too hard

Another site between my eye and nose wouldn’t heal

Dermo visits diagnosed as skin cancers

Recommended Mohs surgery which I went in for Monday

Topical anesthesia was used

Fortunately mine weren’t deep so under my eye was one slice (3) stitches

Forehead needed additional slice (12) stitches

Then both sites were cancer free

Needed Rx for pain as forehead felt like I had been hit by a ball peen hammer and acetaminophen wasn’t enough

After removing pressure bandage Tuesday nite we put on fresh bandages and applied ice packs

Wednesday had continued swelling and pain

Continued Rx and ice packs

Currently no pain and swelling reduced

Also taking supplements of turmeric

Stitches to be removed in 2 weeks

Will keep posted ....

Had a little spot just recently that I got fixed.
Small mole, size of a dull pencil point.
(They always say bigger than a pencil eraser don't they?)
It was right smack dab front and center on my forehead.
Lucky though, they were able to blend the small scar into a forehead wrinkle.
So getting old sucks but sometimes those wrinkles work out.

Twenty stitches on my chest last week and 15 more today on my back.
Told me not to even lift my bass (7.5 pound Muck). My bass addiction says go ahead and play it. I’ll wait a few days to see how the incisions heal.

Mmm

I feel twinges from lifting gallon water bottle and or bending over

Haven’t touched my bassses in months regardless I practice mentally by thinking about bass parts or humming them

Glad I don’t have gigs or I’d consider risking injury

When I was growing up in 50s-60s a sun burn meant you were actively enjoying your summer ...

Years of working in outdoors and driving into sun both ways during daily commute contributed to a site on my neck which so far does not require Mohs

Glad that you are on the mend. Those of us who grew up in the south, and in the sun, are paying for it in our later days.

I had the Mohs procedure for an 'eraser size' spot on the side of my nose in the corner of my right eye. First pass was all it took. Next day I had 2 black eyes, and the right eye was stolen shut for 2 days. Oddly though, the pain not too bad at all.

Yep, been there, done that with the Moh's procedure. Twice.
First one was an eraser-sized spot on the bridge of my nose. Other than the anesthesia shot I didn't feel a thing, and it healed well. A year and a half later there is virtually no scar.

My second procedure was on the top of my head, literally at the dead center of my scalp. This one also was the size of a pencil eraser, but it was much tougher to deal with. It took 7 shots to fully numb the area, and believe me, I felt each one! First of all, the scalp bleeds a heck of a lot more than most areas, and as I'm face down on the table it felt like a faucet had been turned on, there was so much blood running down my face. Secondly, because the tip top of the head has no play in the skin, it felt like they were lacing up a football when sewing me back up. Tugging and yanking and pulling my head from side to side, and it seemed to go on for a long time. I joked that they pulled my skin so hard that my ears were now a half-inch higher than they were before.

I'm due for my yearly checkup, and I really don't want to deal with another one these.

Yeah people pick on me for it, butnI wear fishing sleeves when I drive more than 15 minutes or so. I keep some in my truck and some in my work vehicle. You drive a lot you'll get exposed to a lot of damagimg rays.

It looks awkward but sometimes I wear a fly fishing hat Sort of Lawrence of Arabia meets ball cap

I prefer polarized sunglasses even on cloudy days

Been applying ice packs to ease swelling
Planning to return to work tomorrow

Will wear a cap all day to cover my forehead

I look like a boxer who lost the bout but no black eyes as anticipated

Cancer is no joke. Don't be lulled by the "It's just skin cancer" talk. Your skin is the biggest organ on or in your body. This is hours after one of many Mohs surgeries I've had the last 3 years. The cancer migrated internally so I've been in a bit of a different battle for about a year. It started as a sore that wouldn't stop bleeding on my nose. A simple, pimple like sore. Get things checked out folks. Early is the best and most critical way to catch cancer.

Have had several patches of squamous cell cancer removed. Because of that I see my dermatologist evert six months for a check. I also keep an eye on my skin and have my wife check the places I can't see.
I use sun screen everyday and wear a hat when I am in the sun for long periods. Sometimes I wear a large brimmed hat like lifeguards and gardeners wear. It's dorky looking but if it saves my skin it is worth it.

Melanoma kills a high number of people in Australia and Scotland each year - fair skinned people with too many sunburns. It also kills a large number of africans in Angola. Dark skinned people are not immune.

Derm Dr said it was skin cancer and Mohs Mohs Dr said she got it all

Had I listened to my body earlier..,

Lessons learned
Severe pain sold me up in middle of night but I quickly went back to sleep
Too tired to get analgesics

Back at work No pain today.. thus far

Yawning bending over and such hurts

I didn't want to hijack your thread but felt the message was important enough to share my own story a bit. I waited 2 months with a "pimple" on my nose that would get a soft scab that would slough off, before going in to have it checked out only to find it was cancer, and more than that, it was at least three years old, it was a bit of a wake up. I was properly floored. Sorry y'all had to gaze at my mug
