I didn't want to hijack your thread but felt the message was important enough to share my own story a bit. I waited 2 months with a "pimple" on my nose that would get a soft scab that would slough off, before going in to have it checked out only to find it was cancer, and more than that, it was at least three years old, it was a bit of a wake up. I was properly floored. Sorry y'all had to gaze at my mug

Glad that you are on the mend. Those of us who grew up in the south, and in the sun, are paying for it in our later days.

I had the Mohs procedure for an 'eraser size' spot on the side of my nose in the corner of my right eye. First pass was all it took. Next day I had 2 black eyes, and the right eye was stolen shut for 2 days. Oddly though, the pain not too bad at all.

Had the Mohs procedure done last year on my lower lip.
As kids we were told to get out of the house and get some fresh air and sunshine. As teens we were concerned with our “tan”.
Later in life it was tanning beds before heading to a vacation in Florida.
We unknowingly abused our skin. I wonder what we are doing now that will eventually show up and bite us in the butt.
Diet? Meds? Vitamins? ‘Healthy “ foods?
The longer we live, the better we have to take care of ourselves.
Common sense and moderation are the keys. Hang in there.

My prognosis should be excellent

I had 2 major sunburns: 1966 & 68

As well as mostly working outdoors for decades and enjoying being outside in general. I never tanned. Always burned so I was the dorky one with Fox n sandals

Too bad PABA was discontinued. Best sunblock Ever! But someone ate some and died so rest of us have to suffer crap sunblock forever

Get stitches removed in 2 weeks then further healing

Listen to your body whether lower back groin strains and overvexposure to sun and sound

Update:
Stitches removed 2 weeks back followed by keeping both sites bandaged until today

Will keep sites covered in either : antibiotic ointment , Vit E oil or petroleum jelly

Site between my eye and nose itched while bandaged but I didn’t re injur myself. I lightly scratched over bandage when needed

Scars are healing and I am fortunate that it is not worse

I anticipate future skin cancers and believe I’ll be OK as long as I get frequent checks done

Follow up Dermo appt in August

BTW my new (Kaiser) Dermo Dr advised me to soak my feet with/ vinegar & hot water for tonail fungus on my big toes

Dramatic results in a week from nightly soakings Now I soak less frequently and still improving

I pray each of you suffering with skin cancers to heal

Glad to hear that the sutures are removed. Darn things can be itchy.
Petroleum jelly was applied directly to all 35 of my sutures until removed. Really helped with healing with very small scars.
You are correct to get frequent checkups and follow your doctor’s orders. Great job.

I had my Mohs surgery in January. They put staples in first and then stitches. It has healed up nicely since and everything is looking good.

Cancer is no joke for sure, good luck to the OP and all of you who had close contact with it, I just wish that this will be the last time you'll see any signs of it...

As I am older I expect scars to heal more slowly

Last week I had to do site visits out of vehicle and in sun
Regret Not wearing long sleeves!

Arms and top of hands burned but not blistered Itched a lot

Wife bought me s p f 50 vented hat which I love

Plan on working in yard today

As hot n humid as it is here I will wear a long sleeve shirt n pants to keep bugs off and prevent more sun damage

Part of my yard work may involve weed eating. Found out hard way that long sleeves long pants gloves face shield over sun glasses

Did weed eating one year and looked like I had been sand blasted after I was done. Face arms hands n legs bloodied

I need to lose a few pounds and sweating will help that

Highly recommended Surgeon who did my Mohs is retiring so glad she got me Have Dermo appt in Aug I’m certain I’ll do OK

During pre Mohs I admitted to Dermotologist that’s I had toenail fungus. Recommended apple cider vinegar soaks. Most improvement I’ve had in toenail fungus I just need to do it more often

Update:

Using Scaraway ointment daily and a dab of cocoa butter

Amazed and surprised that scar at hairline which had 12 stitches is healing quite well although there is a slight depression where depth of surgery was greater

Meanwhile the scar under my eye is also healing but seems like that scar may take longer even though it only had 3 stitches; the scar is about 2 “ in a semi- circle under my eye

Nothing to complain about

As I mentioned in post #9, I'm (past) due for my yearly checkup My wife went ahead and scheduled it for week from now. Here's hoping no more biopsies coming back with bad news.
