Remember: It's not just the number of mixes - the number of channels is very important. Some systems are only 8, which means a lot of sub-grouping, which means a lot of stuff will be post fader - which ain't so good.

Yeah, but at the same time, no one should need to have the whole band in their ears.
This is a very bad assumption. If the musicians have in-ears in, they're only going to hear what's in their mix (unless they're bad like me and play with one out occasionally). I absolutely want everything in my mix on in ears...not sure why you'd only want to hear half the group....
