I would defy you to describe how giving context as to why they may not have been the target audience to frame their comments is racist or even implies racism.

There's plenty of actual racism in this world. Really no need to inappropriately label innocuous comments to fabricate more.

Mono Neon is super talented and almost always interesting. I dug the bass part but maybe not the rest of the song. Tempo-wise, seems faster than most funk but I can remember some live Fishbone that ventured into that realm, too.

So I finally listen to the 1st 3 videos preferred #2&3. Dude has killer chops nothing new there he's a bad man and has been since he was a child honestly. I've seen where he is humble and a incredibly kind young man. Unlike many guys with famous musicians as family members that preceded them he's found his own style and niche. I can only dream of having his talent but sometimes being a masterful musicianship doesn't cross over into masterful song writing I'd pay to see him live for sure but from the videos' of his own music I've seen I'm not always a fan. He has time to grow on me song writer wise that's for sure. But it's like Jaco out of this world talent but he's not the song writer Stanley Clarke is IMHO. Honestly I'm just looking forward to see how he grows a musician and enjoy the journey of his musical expression.

Am I the only one who liked the video? They looked like they were having fun, it had a weird kind of No Wave vibe to it but way more hyperactive than that genre usually was. Who cares whether it's technically funk or not? That doesn't matter.

He's a great bassist but he really overplayed on this overdubbing. (This video, without him, has been out for a while.) That said, that sax solo is killer!!!

I dig MonoNeon. He isn't stuck in worn out old ways of thinking and playing. Seriously, he's willing to challenge the norm, while others just sit back and try to defend it. He's willing to go microtonal and explore new sounds, while others will sit back a defend their foundations. Yeah, some players will go so far as to say they can't understand what he's up to…. They will even use tired old excuses to try and justify it. Then folks will defend those tired ideas too. It's pretty funny. Anyway. Embrace change. It's a good thing. Move forward.

Me too, and I enjoy it when new players get the old folks uncomfortable. I think both Louis Cole and Mononeon are stellar, and I couldn't care less what they call it. If they say it's funk, it's funk.

It's uh, very … it's like a workshop where everyone got together and hyperfocused on their technique, very niche aspects, then collaborated for a group presentation to get reviewed.

I get jealous of the skill shown but also realise there is no way i could be that talented and still fit into society with musicians who play music people groove to.

It's not all of funk but, it's a part of the funk universe, IMHO
