Monster Bass Cable?

Was at a local show today and one of the bassists was using a Monster cable specifically for bass?

I didn't know these were made. Are they actually worth getting? I have a good planet waves cable so i don't really need another high end cable unless its actually worth it.

Does anyone use these? Do they improve your sound any? I use a passive bass so i know the cable plays a role in the sound, if these are good i think i might get one.

Thanks

ps. Wasn't exactly sure where to post this so i posted here.

It is highly unlikely you will hear a difference no matter what cable you use, at least in my experience. They just market them for different instruments to increase sales.

However, I have a monster cable and am satisfied with it. Very sturdy, lifetime warranty, easy access to the cable at the ends for quick repair(the planet waves cables I've used don't have this).

Just don't buy it expecting it to give you a better sound.

I had a Circuit Breaker till it broke, then i tried getting it replaced and I never got a new one, and you have to buy thier cable and they only sell it in a huge spool for like $300.

I have the Bass one too, its terrible, it gets tangled way too easily and it is very stiff so when it gets tangled the cable bends in the same spots resulting in tangles, I almost tripped on stage because of that cable.

I use all monster bass cables, and i think that there is definitely a noticeable difference in sound compared to some other monster cables like the "rock" cables. so i think it's probably not worth spending the money, however they are top notch cables in my opinion regardless of being engineered for the bass

I agree with brivello, and that is an interesting little article.

I bought a Premium Fender cable for bass and have had some problems with it. It cuts out a lot. I've tried getting in touch with the eBay user that sold it to me but have had no luck. I'd love to get it replaced.

I needed a 20ft cable with a straight plug on one end (for my amp) and a right angle for the other (for my P bass and its front output jack). It looked to be durable and have good build quality. It also looks very nice. I'm a sucker for the gray and black tweed.

I also bought some 20 ft cables on eBay for about $9 a pop and those are excellent. I can't recall the brand name (if they even had one).

It certainly doesn't hurt to have a reliable cable to keep with you. A good name with a good warranty is worth some extra money, in my book.

AmpegSVT, mine 'broke' also. It kept on cutting out on me, I wanted to get it replaced since it was under lifetime warranty, but i looked online first and it is actually a very easy fix.

It said to take the cable out and cut about an inch off. I did that and its been working fine since.

I think you are contradicting yourself =/

You say you notice difference but advise against buying them?

I have the monster cable going from my instrument to my effects. Its a great gold tipped cable. It does the job but as someone said it tangles easily.

I also have this

I love it, and its gonna do wonders preserving the life of my GK's crappy plastic input.

The monster cable is to protect de amp head and makes no diferent sound but makes better signal. The amp heads (tube or solid) easily broke or blow if theres is not a thick conector cable.
It`s not so expensive ,you can build it your own. Ask any audio tech expert. I blew up 3 tubes before I get my monster cable.

sorry my english.

Not worried about your English, but nonetheless you're off on this one. Cable gauge has nothing to do with protecting your amp.

It broke in the middle of the entire cable though :/ and it has been a while and i threw the cable out, i still have the ends though.

I'm not a 'Monster hater' like many here, but that Bass cable is a strange one. I have quite a few 'high end' cables that I've purchased over the years (Tara Lab, George L, various Monster, etc.) and EXCEPT for the Monster Bass cable, they all sound absolutely, completely, utterly identical.

The Monster Bass cable is the only cable I would not recommend. I'm not sure why, but that cable seems to reduce the delivery of the treble region of the instrument, making it 'seem' like more bass is coming through. I assume it's due to a change in the capacitance of the cable or something. Anyway, I guess I will give them some kudo's for actually making a cable that does sound different, but different is not particularly good in all cases.

The standard mid-line Monster all purpose cables are as good as anything else, and the price is about average (i.e., the same as George L's or whatever).

I'm digging the George L's at the moment. Again, they don't 'sound' any different, but the very thin wire makes it very easy to carry two 15' cables in my case without taking up much room.

Your Planet Wave cables are as good as anything else IMO... so save your money!

IMO and IME.

I have a number of high end cables.
I would not count monster as High end, certainly not the bass cable.
It does not deliver more bass, but simply less top end( at least that's the way I perceive it) I guess it's high resistance and capacitance... not sure
Any of my cables sound better to me, and last longer.
I don't hate monster, I just wouldn't use them.

I have two Monster Bass 500 cables, both twelve footers. (One is straight to straight and the other straight to angled). My first one I've had since the late 90's and when one of the ends began to show signs of stress, via crackle, I called upon their "Lifetime warranty". Very simple, contact them, get an RA#, plop the dying/dead cable in the mail, USPS (around $3 or $4) and within two weeks had a brand new replacement. I've done this twice now and have been very satisfied. (IMO/IME).

These cables have a very high capacitance, which causes them to attenuate high frequencies. Most companies would call them defective. Marketing them as 'bass specific' is Monster's way of taking a lemon and making of it lemonaide.
