Monster Cables warrantee at guitar center

I've got a broken bass monster cable. It broke awhile ago, and I don't have a receipt or packaging anymore. Someone told me that you could just bring the chord by itself with nothing else to guitar center and they'll replace it. I find this sketchy so I thought I'd give the bass world a shout and see if hes pulling a fast one on me.

i suspected the same thing. i set aside an afternoon to go and get it replaced. i was fully prepared for annoying paperwork and having to have it sent to me.

instead.. it was more (paraphrased)

"what is this 20 ft?"
"yeah"
"hey tom, grab me a 20 ft monster off the wall"
"its that simple? i can go?"
"yup. have a nice day"

i wont buy another cable as long as i live.

Its true, I do it once or twice a year. you used to have to fill out some paper work, but they don't do that anymore, don't know why. back in 2005 my teacher told me he went into west LA music and they said the cable looked fine and they wouldn't do it, so he took out a knife and cut it in half, and they said "ok heres a new one" I think they send the cables back to make new ones. I think its there way of monopolizing the market.

Yes it has to not work. A friend said his "cut in and out" and they didn't do the exchange. We walked out in the parking lot and played tug of war!

I replace my Monsters every couple months. I think their Standard 100 line is becoming cheaper built. Planet Waves also returns their cables no questions ask. They seem a little better.

I notice zero difference in sound quality with a monster vs a regular cable, but that's all I buy anymore. why? exactly because of that no questions asked replacement policy. I figure 45 bucks to buy the last cable I'll ever have to buy is a pretty good deal. :)

I swear I thought one of those two brands require you bring the reciept?..
am I wrong?

(I use monster, and never had a bad one in the last ten yrs.)
.

Isnt that a little excessive?..?

Excessive, not for the Standard line. I gigged with them regularly and the jacks would always crackle. I don't gig with them anymore. I have a shorter higher end Monster that I use for practice, 10 years-ish no prolems.

It's really that easy. I had a monster cable that stopped working (stupid cheap molded plugs), and I took it in. The guy plugged it in, tried to play through it, then went and grabbed me another monster cable (same size, and usually the same plug setup), and gave me the receipt to get out the door.

Any music shop that is an authorized Monster retailer will do that. It's in the agreement they have with Monster. IIRC, Planet Waves is the same.

Monster cables come with a mfg lifetime warranty. You could just send it to them for replacement but its faster to let GC send it back. Which is bassically what theyre doing. They know monster will replace it for them so they just give customer free replacment. Is a good customer relations approach by GC. I prefer livewire elite cables myself. Better plug size instead of the oversized ones on monster. Which can tend to stretch jacks contacts open causeing problems when you go to use a std 1/4 plug cable. I think the livewire elites have better detailed sound to. Same lifetime warranty by mfg and tradeable back to GC. Though Ive never had one fail in the all the yrs Ive owned any. About 5 and half yrs now and 0 failure of the 6 cables I have by them.
