Finished the other blazer project and decided his brother needed a little bit of an upgrade. I bought the Dimarzio Model P which my buddy was kind enough to install and went ahead and had him install the series/parallel switch after I drilled out the hole between the input and tone control. It is a great way to spend $50!:hyper: Very clear and defined along with warm and growly. I wasn't really even thinking about the switch but I am glad my bud convinced me to do it because I am diggin' the extra dimension. I haven't found it useless at all. I have an urge to route the body and put in another P pup at the bridge position but that might be for another day.

The "surf green" Blazer got the original pup and sounds good too. A bit more round and less defined but very strong. I would like to get a bridge cover with foam and use it for more of a thumpy/tubby tone. They both have TI flats with the green Blazer wearing the worn in set. I might like to try the Labella FL set on it one day but I don't like high tension strings. Anyway, here are a few pics of the Fabulous Blazer Brothers!:D

FWIW I think You chose the right color combinations. IMO it's all about contrast not about hiding when it comes to colors of the various parts.

The exotic wood basses are a bit different, but with "standards" like these, it works like a charm.

BTW my first bass in 80's was a Blazer. It had a different pup though. A shot from my first gig ~86 :D

Later I installed a small cream colored Dimarzio humbucker to the neck position.

You are rockin' out in that pic!!!:bassist: Thanks for the color choice support. I am happy about the Dimarzio choice. I need to get the ash bodied Blazer to a luthier and get a fret job as I would not mind putting some roundwounds on it but due to the bad wear of the frets they buzz way too much as compared to the TI flats. I am going to be looking for more MIJ Ibanez gear as well as other early and more recent MIJ gear. There are alot of other great brands out there and I hoped this thread would bring out the pics. Maybe an open MIJ bass club?

Ok, this photo was taken when I was 15 in 1983, after a firestorm went through a town & they had a fancy dress party as a fund raiser. I came as someone who had just fought off a firestorm! (for the aussies, ash wednesday @ Cockatoo).

If anyone has a Blazer in good original condition & this color they want to sell, PLEASE PM me. This is the only bass that I have sold & regretted :bawl:

Thanks :) it was the late 80's and I was 15 so it figures :bassist:

Gone both, traded that Blazer for an amp I think. The bass was a bitch to play, as You can believe if You look closely how high the E-string is. I hadn't learned how to set up my gear as yet. As for my hairdo, it's like this nowadays :D

My hairline goes up every year, but I try to compensate...

BTW the cord that goes from DI to my gear is the same as in the pic 1 :p

And that Herby is also a backup these days. I've switched to Epi T-bird. Now who would've guessed that ;)

That natural looks like mine and IMO is the best looking of the Blazer finishes. My original Blazer, my first bass back in 83, was similar to Rusty66's.

I remember Ash Wednesday well, and it's one of the reasons I'm a current RFS member: I was on duty on line at Thredbo when Canberra went up and my friends were on the line there at the time.

I have an 82 blazer that looks exactly like the one in your first gig pic. When I started playing out after years of just working at my skill level, I got so many compliments on the way it sounds and looks, I went online and was astonished to find dozens of accolades specifically regarding this model and vintage. Suh-weet! Who knew? All I knew was I liked it.
But it's an absolute bullet proof gig-warrior and I got it for fifty clams. I play this thing all the time.
