More SVT CL problems

You know,I thought I had this together.
Just a hour ago,I'm here in my basement playing a bit.
Master on 5 Gain on 1.5 and the thing quits.Just quits and I get this loud crackling noise out of both cabs like lightning heard over the radio.
I use speakon connectors two 8 ohm cabs with the head set at 4 ohms.
I swapped out the two 12ax7 in the preamp and double checked the connectors to the preamp.All the tubes seem to be glowing and the bias lamps both glow green.
I've called a service center and I'm gonna take the boat anchor in in a bit.Anyone have a guess what the problem is?
I've had a real crappy 2 weeks here lately.
My boy impailed himself on his bike.
Our brand new refrigerator (1 week old) died.
The day my boy was to have his stitches removed he busted a front tooth.
I got laid off after 23 years.
And now my SVT dies .
Things have to get better soon.

Man...sorry you're having such a string of bad luck.

I hope your son is doing OK, that of course is the most important issue!! Hopefully your medical benefits will cover all of that...

Sorry about your job too...I've been at the same place for 24 years now and wouldn't want to have to start over.

As for your amp, have you tried jumpering the preamp out/power amp in jacks with a shielded cable?

Maybe try selecting a different midrange frequency...if the CL is like the original SVT, the mid frequency is determined by different taps on a coil in the tone control circuit...if the switch is bad or a solder joint is bad in that area, it might help.

Thanks for the kind words.
Thankfully the amp is a 04 model and anything outside of tubes will be covered by Ampegs 5 year warrenty.
The boy is fine.The dentist reconstructed his tooth in 20 minutes.
The job? oh well.I have a package that gives me full pay and bennies till next Febuary.Once I get through the shock a bit more I'll find something.At least I have a cushion there.
It was just one thing after another.They say what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.Good grief.

sedan_dad, I think we've got a lot in common.

Good news about your boy. I've got a toddler and he's starting to jump off of everything, so I fully expect to have a well-worn path to the emergency care clinic here in a couple of years.

Glad to know you've got a cushion. Layoffs are always a threat for me too, no matter how much I try to make myself more valuable to the company (those decisions are made by people that don't know me - yes, huge company).

With my SVT II the signal was cutting out and making strange noises depending on how warm the amp got. The fix was to replace all the input jacks on the front and back. Been perfect since. Was a $100 fix, but yours is still under warranty. So at least that's good news!

Anyway, I find that having uncertainty and stress in my life makes me MUCH more creative. Maybe it's like dodging reality, but something inside opens up and the good stuff comes out musically. Take this times as a blessing of sorts. What you create on your bass might be the best stuff ever in you life!

You know I do believe your right.
I played last night and I've never had so much fun.There wasn't a lot of people and we were doing a low volume show ( I was using a 15" Yorkville combo and my Danno)but it was a blast.The drummer and I were just locked in.It just felt so right.I forgot about everything.
