More tension on B string

I am using DR Neons on my Lakland 55-01.I have the choice to sting it thru body or end of bridge.Any one have any experience with this bass and or strings?Which way would give me the most tension.Or do I say bye bye to Neons and look for a stiffer string.The B string is so floppy I really can't get a useable tone out of it.

Makes no difference, but I always string through body whenever possible. It give you more downforce on the saddles and bridge which is always a good thing.

I think Neon's only go up to a .125, right? Plus they are round core so they are low tension. If they are too floppy for you, assuming they are installed right (crimped before cutting), you may indeed need a larger hex core string. Personally I don't like anything smaller than a .135 but it's personal preference.

I think you are right.The glow in the dark under black lights is so cool, but not at the sacrifice of the sound.Flat wounds were nice and tight but too thumpy,which is a okay if your playing,Motown or reggae but this bass I use in a pop cover band.I may just change out the one B string and keep the rest.

Keep in mind the neon strings are round core and will be more flexible than a hex core of a smaller size. Just because a string vibrates more doesn't mean it is flop.

Very good, definitely try a .130 Neon then. Bass Strings Online sells them in singles. Hey, you can make a rainbow set!

And if that's still too loose, D'Addario and others make a .135, and GHS makes a Super Steel .138 I really like, and then D'Addario and others make a .140. Go up one at a time until you find what you like.

You guys.....ya gonna make Jason rich...LOL I just ordered from Jason so later this week I will have them on and see how it goes.I think it is so nice to be able to order 1 string.Bass strings online has been my favorite company to deal with and talk about fast man I think the guy drops it in my mail box himself.

As long as Jason keeps making saving money easy while providing amazing service, I think BSO will remain the favorite place for TBers to get strings.
