I am going to stash a beater bass in my cubicle for lunchtime practice noodling. What strings would be the stealthiest? Tapewound? Also, would a fretless be quieter? Thanks Tristan
Flatwounds are the quietest strings, acoustically. You better be using a headphone amp of some kind because they are very hard to hear acoustically unless the room is very quiet. Fretless would probably be a little quieter because there is no chance of fret rattle.
Yes, I should have mentioned I will get a headphone amp or PC interface to headphones, so I will not need unplugged volume.
tapewounds are electrically quiet, but not acoustically, because under the tape they are roundwounds. flats are way more quiet.
