There was a few interesting papers some years ago about the proportion of "soft" and "hard" news in medias. Zaller (2003) was defending the theory that there was mainly soft-news (without evidence) and Patterson (2003, 2000) measured otherwise. Graber's data in 2003 also confirmed there was more hard-news than soft. I very much doubt it changed significantly over the past decade.
I'm glad that at least someone adheres to TB's stringent 6th ed. APA manual guidelines here!
