There's a guy on Ebay and his company's name is VERY appropriate. I'm not making this up. It's called "Dickhead Designs." I've seen his auctions and ignored them for the most part, but I had a customer who liked the look of his necks and wanted to know if he ever made Jazz necks. I wrote him and asked if they made Jazz bass necks and I swear on my mother's grave, this is his answer:
"We have found that the jazz necks are to weak and lack sufficient tone." #1, He doesn't even know to use "too" instead of "to," and how does anyone come up with this kind of lunacy? Yeah, Jaco and a few million other bass players can't get any tone out of a Jazz bass! I won't put the link, but if you look under bass necks and put in the term, "roasted," you should find it.

There was a thread about this joker, and he tracked it down and defended his work.

I think he has some serious delusional ideas. His photos on Ebay are always terrible. His creations slung up against a wall taken with a poor camera in poor light conditions. Hardly a good start.

Then he claims his basses are the product of Occupational Therapy sessions for disabled kids, yet he does not say anything about how this actually works.

The worst thing I saw was a Bronco bass with a different neck where the neck met the body at an angle, the pickup was on a different angle and the bridge was on yet another angle. Sort of looked like it was slyly turning a corner.

Wow! I had no idea this guy was this crazy. I'm sorry, but trying to justify ANYTHING that is not 100% upright and good by saying you are doing it for "special needs kids" is reprehensible at best and possibly felonious. He also sited Jaco's playing as an example of "weakness." I think this guy is nuttier than a fruit cake! :-)

As much as I really do want to thank you all for the multitude of referrals that you generated allowing all time highs of 103K then 92K this past year I must ask that you at least quote me accurately. You are more than welcome to debate this and disagree but "We find the P Bass neck superior when compared to a jazz neck both in strength and in tone." Period End Quote. Over 100 necks sold and zero returns. Think about this if you wood, left hand tuners are reverse rotation and they bring the tuners closer to a short armed person. The weasel with the peghead issue got his refund from ebay because I won the buyer protection case and they couldn't debit me. Who doesn't notice something like that until 6 weeks later. Come on E Bay Scam Artist. Enjoyed the banter gentlemen......

If you plan to be weird on the internet...plan to be called out for it.

As you can see, we did this guy a favor by publicizing his ebay store. He obviously needs to drum up some new business, that's why he revived this thread from two years back.

You're = you are, as in "If you are going..."
Your= NOT you are.

I typically discount poor spelling/grammar when on TB because someone may know a lot about basses but can't spell their name.

Its one thing to do it here, but if you're doing it on an eBay post, maybe you should have someone proofread it first.

By bringing this thread back to life, you are putting yourself out there for massive flaming. Have a great day!

That is because his brain is ROASTED. Therefore he cant find any tone in a Jazz Neck, there i said it.:D

All very strange - but then again Jaco was a player in the 'fusion' genre................which is not exactly teeming with players of Jazz basses now as newer instruments have since come along.

Even Jaco changed the sound of his Jazz bass by modifications and use of effects.............one wonders whether, if he was still alive, he would even play a Jazz bass these days.

Get past the homophone mixups. I messaged AJ on ebay, made it clear that I wasn't looking to buy his bass for sale, asking for his advice on piezo bridges, electronics etc. I got over a dozen comms on an almost daily basis including an offer to get hold of a buffer for me that's unavailable in the UK.

For the record, AJ, I grabbed a Fishman Powerchip for a bargain price but still appreciate your kind offer. Whatever you think of his leftfield ops or radical ideas, I've had a heap of generously given advice that I also copied over to fellow TBer SeanG when I saw his request for info on piezos and the least I can do in return is say that AJ's got a good heart.

Jaco had a Jazz bass with a maple fretted P bass neck that he used for practicing. Clearly, he preferred Jazz necks to P bass necks.
