most overated bassist?

i know u guys will probably all kill me for this, but i think Bootsy is overated! i love funk, i love rock as well!
i love the stuff bootsy did wiv james brown, but i just dont seem 2 like any thing else he has done, apart from the super bad soundtrack, thats awesome.

+1 to close THIS! If flea is so bad, then why do so many people love RHCP....the singing? I never saw him wearing his "I'm the best bass player ever" tshirt so I really don't care what his ranking is.
geddy doesn't over play.. it's a 3 piece band..and the bass covers a lot of the highs too.. thats the rush sound..without geddy playing the way he does it'd be just another rock band.
he adds the texture to the music..part of the reason it's sooo progressive.. even his simple bass lines like on The Pass.. are still fantastic!

re: Geddy. this whole thread is about opinion, as an earlier post stated. One man's trash is another man's treasure. No accounting for taste etc. etc.
I just happen to loathe all things Rush--Geddy's bass, his singing the entire group and their 19 studio albums--but again, that's just me, IMO, YMMV, my .02 etc. etc.
In no way am I trying to convince anyone who likes Geddy & Rush that they shouldn't. If we all had the same tastes, then music, the bass and bass playing would be whole hell of a lot less interesting & enjoyable!

Fair enough, you are right, its good we dont all like the same music. But it still comes down to who you dont like compared to someone you do. Name your favorite bassist.
favorite's always rotate, but I like and was influenced by (but can't play like) entwistle, pappilardi , Paul "Action" Jackson of the Headhunters, Allen Woody all come to mind.
A lot of my dislike of Geddy stems from my general dislike of Rush ( I was traumatized by too much tom sawyer on the FM dial) and Geddy's vocals.
indeed but thats not about overrated bassists..its about what bassist annoys you..what Geddy has done for bass players around the place etc is undeniable..regardless of whether you like him or loathe him
You don't know what you're talking about. Hows that for really intelligent? Burton played a Ric and Harris plays a P bass. Last time I checked Ric's and P's weren't pointy. Pointy starts with a p maybe that's where you got confused.
So here's a question for his whole thread......Can't you respect a players ability even if you don't like thier music? I mean, Primus is unlistenable pot-head garbage to me, but I still acknowledge how talented Les Claypool is.
+1 I'm not crazy about Victor Wooten's music. Do I think he's overated or that he sucks? No that would be completely ridiculous as he is obviously very talented. Just not my cup of tea.
