the most over rated bass player is the one who sits at a computer having achieved no fame or fortune and slates bass players on the internet who have changed the face of music and indeed the face of history

anyone who thinks there better than harris should write songs that rival the success of number of the beast

anyone who thinks cliff burton is over rated should form the next biggest thrash metal band on the planet

etc etc

just remember its free to post on youtube so anyone who thinks the pro bass players are so over rated should 1st put his OWN music up for critics to judge before being a critic themselves

Not to be a Moaning Michael but just because I think Cliff is over-rated doesn't mean I think he was bad. Same goes for Harris', but neithers style appeals to me anymore.(And Cliff didn't form 'Tallica:cool::D)

Someone's always bound to dump on someone else's favorite player(s).
Say's it all really...

those guys who are flashy for flashyness's sake!! haha like those guys with 10 string basses. a - you never see them in an actual band and b) i'd rather watch a guy groove in a musical group when playin bass whether it be jason newsted, aston family man or eddie gomez!!!

flea and claypool..

i do think they are great players, but ive heard people consider them to be far more than they really are..

cliff burton and all guys like that are flat out horrible..but they have long hair and their bass is all pointy and such, so some really intelligent 15 year old will think hes great.

and as for noel redding..well, atleast he had cool hair..

Jean Baudin plays 8 and 9 string basses in bands, just look up the bands Nuclear Rabbit and Element of Surprise on myspace, they sound awesome. NR is just insane and EOS is some of the best rock I've heard in a while.

jsingles: watch dream theater's "live at budukon" dvd and try to explain how john myung is at all overrated. he's one of the fastest, most melodic and most technically proficient bassists in all of music.

Dude, it's an opinion, chill. Just because someone doesn't like something or finds something/someone overrated doesn't mean you have to go crazy.

am to lazy to read the hole thing but has anyone but pete wenz
if you want over rated i think people should leave Wooten and other solo bass players alone and focus more on pop punk rubbish like i don't erm mark hoppus not shore if he is rited but there you go hahaa :hmm:

+1. This is probably the greatest Talk Bass post ever. Put your money where you mouth is BEOTCHES!!

whats with everyone defending these metal guys..they stink =/

"id like to see you play a maiden song"

i'd like to see the guy from maiden improvise a solo like jaco. slap like victor. groove like jamerson.

and thats all besides the point.. saying "you cant play this song by this guy." thats a matter of a physical challenge, being able to play as fast as whoever. since when was there a direct correlation between speed and musicality? i'd be more impressed if i saw someone bench press a lot of weight, than i would be if i saw someone play a maiden song..

why not flip it around and make everything a little more positive; most underrated bass players?

richard bona, and john pattituci both get my votes..
