Check out any Rudder albums ("Rudder" and "Matorning") or the latest Wayne Krantz album ("Krantz, Carlock, Lefebvre"). He has amazing feel, killer technique and really knows the how, when, and what when it comes to effects.

+1, I've really been getting into his playing lately. He also shares bass duties with Fima Ephron on Jeroen Vrolijk's New Morning disk.

Not to be "that guy" who always points out overrated players, but is everyone forgetting that Geddy Lee is nothing but effects? Good ones at that, but his entire style is effects. Without them you have some interesting bass playing, but you don't have that signature sound. Believe me... I once had to play Tom Sawyer live without my effects board. Crash and burn... but regardless, Geddy Lee is easily one of the greatest effects players.

Yes...Bootsy has to be numero uno. But I like to listen to Ralphe Armstrong on JLP's "LIVE" album(circa 1976.) His using the Maestro's Bass Brassmaster,Phaser and Wah-Wah pedal is "mind-blowing"!
