Most Underrated Bassists

Mike Mesaros, original bassist for the Smithereens. Listen to "Blood and Roses", "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" or "Blues Before and After" to get a good sense of what he was about.

Shawn Economaki of Stone Sour. Don't know why, but there's just something about his style that I dig. Maybe it's the beard.

Mike Dirnt. I know a lot of people put down Green Day, but I like how Mike plays.

Steve Kmak, original bassist for Disturbed. Love the syncopated stuff he did with Mike Wengren on the "Believe" album. "Liberate" is one of my favorite songs.

Rob Grange. If you can listen to "Stranglehold" and not like this guy, you need some kind of musical intervention.

John Taylor of Duran Duran.

Over his career, he has gained more notoriety for his good looks than for his bass playing. If you disagree, try playing "Girls on Film" from their debut album "Duran Duran" or the song "Rio" from the "Rio" album.

Trust me, you will see that its a handful.

I'd have to say Graham Simpson, who was the original bassist for Roxy Music and played on their first album. Just listen to "2H.B."; it's simply outstanding.

Kind of makes me wonder who else is out there making incredible music that nearly no one will ever hear or appreciate.
