Most useful effects live

For me it's OD -> Filter -> Flanger. This gives me a good variety of useful combinations (and I like to keep things simple so 3 pedals are plenty). I love the sound when all are engaged, but it's definitely for the space jam sections! Specifically, I use Hematoma, Groove Regulator and an old Maxon FL-01. I find that the GR does not throw volume spikes at all, certainly nothing compared to my other filters. That's a key thing for me, actually.

I just couldn't tame that dang thing! I had a Modulus FUJ5 and although it has a gain knob on the inside, I turned it down to low volumes and still.... BAMMM every time I turned it on it would rape in ear monitors and speakers. I have a passive MIA Fender J now and now I have the Jaco curved finger right hand technique down so maybe it would make a diff, but I doubt it. every bass player I know uses active basses and the flat right hand approach like I used to.
