Most Wal-like tone on a Fender?

He was working on both, at one point farmed out the preamp to someone even less reliable than himself. Progress on it has been even slower since then.

I wonder how much of the cost is in the pickup/preamp when you get a Wal built.

I'd honestly not care if I could slap the electronics and p-ups in a modded Ibanez SRX....in fact that would be pretty awesome IMO lol. Even if they were expensive as hell, I guarantee you they'd sell quite a few pickups if they sold them and the preamp separately from the basses.

Perhaps I'm wrong. I do know he was talking about releasing them as a package deal, so I assumed he'd had the preamp to reverse engineer.
