Motown DI - anyone try it yet?

If I paid full retail $450 I think I'd be a bit disappointed. I think it compares very well to typical live DIs like a JDI or countryman. With a fairly higher price tag I'd be hard pressed to recommend it to someone on a budget but it's a nice piece of gear.

Sorry I prefer small thoughts rather then long edited reviews.

I play two basses both 6 string passive basses with TI flats and I can't say I've played a passive DI that provided such a nice full body. Where most fall short is in the upper register and this things seems to deliver there.

You are so right about the upper register being the downfall of most DI's. Plink plink plink. Might as well be playing a banjo. If the upper notes don't have as much weight to the bottom as the lower ones do, it's of no use to me.

I know this has been discussed here before, but here's a new video from NAMM. DI box tests are really difficult to find online, and they're never really done right. It sounds cool but I really want to hear an A/B comparison of this box. As great as it looks, I'm sceptical about its' capabilities - the only way of telling what it does IMO is to run a signal straight to a DAW, and then run the same signal into the same DAW, but via the DI box.

So has anyone tried it yet?

Transformers certainly can color sound, but goodness that article is painful to read.

Its devoid of any actual quantifiable data about said DI and chocked full of tangential rants and references to the author's preferred deity.

Chuck Bartells, excellent local bassist who is on tour with Sturgill Simpson right now has one and loves it. He runs a 74 P-Bass into one live with IEMS in some big venues.
