Double Bass Mounting an ATM35

Hey all -

I would love to mount my ATM35 with the rubber shock mount that the DPA4099's use between the E and G string. I see you can purchase these separately, but didn't know if anyone had ever tried it. Or if anyone had tried to use the smaller violin mounts just between the A and D string. Suggestions welcome.

The newer ATM350A has this range of accessories.

You could try one of the long goose necks, but I don't know if it would fit securely in the BC4099 mount.

I have seen videos where the clip was attached to the ball of one of the strings (under the tail piece). I would be concerned that clip is not secure enough.

You might also be able to rig up something with one of these AT8491W mounts.

Perhaps you could build some sort of adapter, so this AT8491W can be securely attached in the same position as the DPA BC4099.

Yes, you can buy them separately. I’m not certain they will work because the DPA has a metal “cap” on the end of the gooseneck that pushes into the rubber string holder.

I bent a piece of aluminium into an U-shape (open ends a bit closer), put the gooseneck in the DPA holder and put the clamp over the rubber part holding the gooseneck.
Easy solution. Only the ATM35 gooseneck is rather short. So it would also be possible to clamp the gooseneck at the Aluminium U or get the longer gooseneck for the ATM350.
since the windshield for the ARM350 fits the ATM35, the gooseneck should as well.

Seems like a binder clip might work in place of your aluminum clip? Are these mounts really 43 dollars everywhere?
I'm guessing having Jonas ship a foam ball from the EU won't be cheap either. @Earl, do you know how much these are? They don't seem to be listed separately from the Audix on his site.

Yes, I'm afraid they are. When the DPA 4099B's first came out, the Double Bass Mounts were not available, so we all had to order one six months later, because neither the violin version or the guitar version worked.
I've tried the clip for the Ovid T Bone (a DPA clone) it's not well made and pops of the strings easily, so I can't recommend it. Incidentally, DPA has/had a U.S. office in Colorado.

When I ordered my DPA DB string holder it was about 20€. But about half a year later the price have risen to about 40€ as far as I can remember.
I guessed DPA didn’t want that it was ordered by people who don’t have the DPA mic but something cheaper.

Fantastic! This looks foolproof, and easy to boot. Throw a couple of googly eyes on the screws, and you're set. Thanks for re-sharing.
