Double Bass Mounting the Pickup

Just a thought; has anyone tried mounting a single bridge wing pickup in the heart-shaped thingy in the middle? The main difference is that the pickup will be midway between the G and E side and will be just a bit closer to the strings. It will have to be slightly offset to one side a bit but will be as central as makes no difference. Any experience out there? I don't really want to get filing before I get some encouragement.

I'm not certain that I would go that route. I think the end result would sound more like the single element Wilson pickup (which they evidently don't make anymore) and I'm just not very fond of that particular sound.

I tried that once or twice with one side of an Underwood. Didn't work, I couldn't get a good contact with the either side of the element. I didn't want to alter my bridge, so gave up on that idea. More recently I put a Stat-B there, I was able to make the cork part fit in the heart and that was enough contact to active it. It worked but I didn't care for the sound of it placed like that, no definition, just boomy and echoey. The Stat-B sounds best where it's intended to go.
