moving because of my bass

About six years ago my wife and I moved from a condo to a townhouse hired a guy to build a music room in my basement as soundproof as possible.
At the time I was only playing my banjo, a bit of acoustic guitar and am a bit of an audiophile, so lots of music.
Last October, we sold and moved to a condo.
Put a damper on my playing.....lots of headphone use.
Three months ago took up the bass and playing constantly. I love it.
We have decided to move back to a home with a basement.
Anyone else ever move for the sake of their bass playing?

Egads, posting from phones leads to a terrible UX for everyone... wish more people would proof read :(.

No, I haven't moved because of my bass playing. Even in apartments, I never had an issue with it... amps have volume knobs for a reason after all, and practice, for me, is much more rewarding at lower volumes.

I know there's a lot of living situations that just aren't very accommodating to musicians. I specifically have done everything I can *not* to move for that reason, since I've managed to find a place where I can get away with a lot of noise. I've wanted to move sometimes for non-music reasons but always end up giving up on the idea because I can't find anything within my means that let me get away with the noise.

Bottom line is I miss having a dedicated music room so we have decided to find a place more suitable to my music interests.

I suggest you just talk to everyone living in earshot & tell them politely that you like to play, and ask them if there are any particular hours, outside of sleepy time, that they'd prefer you play.
Bring a gift.

I've been lucky that folks living beside me are usually into music & sometimes even play. I miss playing with the old guy who lived beside me at my last place.
Now I have a drummer living next door & the gal on the other side actually told me to turn it up when I play out on the back porch.

i've never had to think about it much: i always lived in a place where loudness/noise was not an issue (more or less!). just lucky, so far.

but with my wife retiring in a few years = condo living = may become a real issue. i'm not looking forward to it, so i'm trying "denial" until i know better! :D

I play with headphone all the time. So much that I sold the last amp I had. I now play through a small mixing consol that let me plug my laptop or iPod for music then a keyboard and also a drumpad.

I much refer to sound that way too, way easier to get the tone I want. I always found amp to have unfocus sound because of the room and other instruments playing and all the natural reverb going on. With headphone, everything is controled just like in a recording.

I am 64 and retiring next year so I plan to spend much more time playing. I just don't think the condo will cut it long term.
I also don't mind practicing quietly and have a good headphone set up through my amp..but every once in a while it is nice to let loose.
Not only with my bass but with my audio equipment as well.
Also have built up some nice equity in the condo in a short time so financially it works for us.
