Moving - how many basses do you really need?

I only need two. My Precision (P/J) is for typical blues, rock and most genres. My 6 string is for writing and other experimental music (classical, tribal, etc.). I prefer to write music with my 6 string as it opens up a lot of creativity for me. But when I'm just layin' it down low in a standard band format, I'll grab my 4 string.

I've found myself happy with 3. One that has a vintage sound and one with a very modern sound cover 100% of the live playing I do, and then one fretless for my own amusement at home.

Bare minimum for me is two - one fretted, one fretless.

I'd want at four I think - a 6-string and three 5-strings (roundwounds, flatwounds and fretless).
