MTD 534!!

34" is available at a pretty steep upcharge. It is extremely rare to find a used 534.

This is incorrect. I spoke directly with Mike Tobias and he told me that he does not charge extra fro 34" scale...this is a myth, a tall tale, a lie perpetuated by people who dislike 34" basses...:hiding:

Ok, so that's not exactly right - BUT - there is no upcharge for 34" scale.

west*coast*bass,

I'll take your word for it because I've never called Mike Tobais to verify for myself. I've only been an admirer of MTD's and never seriously been in the market for one. Thanks for the correction.

Mike is also one of the nicest, friendliest and helpful over the phone- and just happens to have been making some of the best instruments on the planet for over 20 years. That man deserves every bit of praise he gets.

Heres mine.....honeymoon aint over yet...wenge/wenge

Hi all,

This is my very first post.
I recently bought a 34" MTD, thought that MTD was only made in 35". I actually owned a 535MTD for 10 years and sld it to buy a Sadowsky NYC, then found this 534. And I just bought it !!
Those are not great pics taken from the shop where I bought it, the wood selection was done by Mr Tobias himself. Body is Ash, Top is Walnut and neck is Ash with Maple fingerboard.
I am very happy with this one since I was always looking for a 34" scale MTD, sound is stunning and B string tension is just fine. :)
