MTD Kingston KZ5 pickup covers, what's under them?

I'm interested in this fretless bass in the trans cherry finish, but I really don't dig the pickup covers, at least not with the cherry finish. I prefer the look of the black pickups (like the Kingston Heir 5 had) on the cherry finish. Anyone know what it looks like underneath the wooden covers? If you remove the covers, will it show the insides of the pickups, or black cover? Can you get black covers for this bass?

i think black paint or wood stain would be a pretty simple solution.
