MTD KZ setup

Hi guys, hope this is in the right place.

I recently bought an MTD Kingston KZ 6 string bass and when it was shipped, they shipped it with the neck detached. I got the bass and attached the neck and gave it a rough setup. Intonation is perfect and the action felt nice. Only problem was when i plugged in and played with the band the volume of the E and B strings was significantly louder than the rest of the bass. Not just the open strings but all the frets on them as well, the frequencies seemed to cut though so much more.

Is this a problem with the action of those strings? I found if i raised the action a little it fixed it somewhat, but still no where near enough. And the problem is i like fairly low action.

Other thought is maybe its an EQ thing. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?
I really love the tone (on the strings that i can hear most anyway) and the feel is amazing, just need it to sound even across the strings

thanks

So i adjusted the pickups lowering them at the low end and even raising them a bit on the high side. This fixed it a bit but there was still a noticeable difference. I fished out my old digitech compressor pedal today though and found it evens the volumes and tone out a whole lot more, so i think ill end up just running that permanently through my setup
