I liked everything about the AmPro a lot except for the pickup. Some people like it. I thought it was OK but too scooped for my tastes. And while I haven't played a Cutlass yet, it looks nice. I hear the pickups are a different size, though, so if you ever want to change them out, that might be something to consider.
At least a couple people have switched out to Duncan's W/no prob (including Ian Grushka of New Found Glory)

I guess I don't know for sure.
However, Ian returned his green Cutlass w/same pickup to EBMM and they repurposed it with their original pickup and passed it on to another artist on the EBMM forum. I guess you'd have to ask someone at the company to be certain. Personally I am super happy with the original pickup.
So, I went with the Cutlass. Since I can't get my hands on one to try I'm taking advantage of the return policy to try this bass.if I like it enough, it stays.
My first impression is that this thing plays like a dream absolute butter in my hands. The neck is perfect.
It sounds to me like a P bass with the tone at 3/4. Not much midrange bark and heavy on the low mids (edit: This has to be the amp and cab I was using. Ashdown CTM100 and Carvin 410. The carvin cab is really pushing some low end for some reason. Totally different sound through the Bassman and 610. Very P bass sounding). Im used to big fat bass from my BB1024x, so it has big shoes to live up to. Rolling the tone off is not drastic and doesn't sound as muffled as a fender P.
I'm going to use it in a live setting tomorrow to see where it sits in a mix.

Congrats! That's how I feel about the neck on my Caprice. That's also the color I got, but it was an absolute necessity for me to throw a black PG on it. I'm not a tort guy, but I think that would work for me too on this one.
RE the live test, since I'm suspecting the Cutlass will share some other Caprice characteristics, I'd like to forwarn ya one more time that it's not going to sit in the mix like a P, and it's going to have a little less output. My Caprice sits perfectly in the mix of several bands I've used it in (including a Zep tribute). It just sits there differently than a Fender, and it took a little getting used to. I wasn't immediately in love (think I mentioned that already) but I'm glad I stuck it out. Been alternating my Jazz and Caprice and loving them both - with the Caprice now taking the #1 spot.

I think you will like what you hear from the Caprice . Nice color choice . I almost went with white . It was my first choice but ultimately the Diamond Blue won me over.
An andonized gold , gold mirror , black pearl or black pickguard would look great on that white. Really anything goes with white.
The neck is just the icing on the cake. Best neck ever!!

EB MM basses are all very good sounding. I totally agree, the MusicMan bass sounds great. MM has a good attention to detail, great design and craftsmanship. And their customer service is one of the best in the music industry. And, they make a variety of basses to suit just about any player's preference. Be it the P bass, J bass, modern bass, etc..., MM has their own design on them, and they do make outstanding products.
After the fact, but interestingly Fender is not offering white as a color option for the Pro anymore.
P bass remains a Fender .
Jazz Bass remains a Fender (with some concessions to Sadowsky on my side) .
MM, as G&L, are a different thing without being detrimental to role MM and G&L had and have in modern music .

I can make an hour's drive to downtown Toronto, and have my pick of the litter of Sadowsky basses from Club Bass, but I'm afraid of what might happen if I do that, and so therefore I'm avoiding going down there at all costs.....
