Music Man Sterling HH or Bongo??? (opinions please)

If i were to get a music man what bass would be better for rock: The Sterling HH or the Bongo???

I have played both. I ABSOLUTELY love the bongo... its got a 4-band EQ (which is wonderful) and has a unique tone which I feel would suit rock perfectly.
However, I also love my Euro LX (Spector) which I think has a more modern, metal-esque tone.
This is coming from someone that couldn't stand the Stingray5 but loved the Bongo5 so I might be weird...

"Rock" is such a large category...classic to metal and everything in between. I've heard nothing but good things about the Bongo, but I voted Stingray HH because to me, it just sounds so much cooler...plus those 2 humbuckers can really give you that low "umph," like Given Up by Linkin Park. It's a really good representation of what a Stingray can do for heavy rock.

Bongos can mimic sterlings but not the other way round.

Nothing sounds like a Bongo, but a Bongo can sound like other basses, but then why would you want to. With a Bongo you will not sound like anyone else, if you don't want to, you will have your own sound. I hear people say I want to get this persons sound or that persons sound, get a Bongo and find YOUR sound.

Neither is "better". It's like those questions,"what string is best,what amp is best",etc.. It's all personal preference. Go play one of each and decide which one you like best.You have faithfull players on both sides,me personally prefering the Sterling HH,or H.

I own both and the Sterling HH is just more my style. I love the tone and feel and narrow neck. The Bongo sounds amazing but I'm less comfortable on it, the neck is chunkier and the controls do more than I need them to.

i have tried both, but only for short periods of time and not back-to-back

the bongo did have a little more versitiliy, but the HH's playability is was better and has a killer slap tone

plus i just cant stand the bongo's body shape...

I voted Bongo, although I prefer playing the Sterling, but not by much.
The Bongo is so agressive and rude sounding, which is great for hard rock. Get a very good Entwistle tone with a Bongo.

any bass would work for rock. Rock is *not* demanding, tone-wise, and either of these basses will sound and place nice. I don't know that I can handled the whole toilet-seat look of the Bongo, myself...

I said sterling, yes that bongo is an ugly beast. 2 humbuckers are better than one.

Sterling HH. Mainly cause of the looks. If you own any Ernie Ball, you own one of the most versatile basses ever made anyway.

Both are excellent basses and are capable of doing just about anything but the Bongo looks like a toilet seat so I vote for the Sterling.

From reading all of these replies i feel like everyone wants to pick the bongo but doesn't because of the body shape.

That's damn shame.

Both are great basses. I have a Sterling and 2 Bongos with one more being built right now. With Music Man basses, there isn't a bass that they make that I don't like. In fact, I eventually want to have at least one of every model they make. With that being said, given the choices you have given, I would take the Bongo. The Sterlings are very versatile and I absolutely love them but with the Bongos, they are really something special. It's funny too because the Sterling is probably my second favorite Music Man too so really I'm kind of torn which one to choose but I play my Bongo's a lot more than I play my Sterling even though I love it so my vote is for the Bongo.

Pretty general question, but I would go with the bongo because of it's unending versatility and playability. Plus, it looks completely Badass
