Music man Stingray

Last time I was in a major music store they probably had 16 different Fender basses and only 2 or 3 Musicmans.

I compared the the Stingrays to the nicest 2014 Fender P bass (PJ pups\new style preamp electronics)

The Musicman won every time.

But then again I'm not in an indie band and I've never thought Fender basses look particularly attractive.

The Stingray isn't the prettiest bass. I just love the sound it makes.

I don't know about "in style" - but I'm still very happy that I finally pulled the trigger on a MM Sterling earlier this year. Great sounding bass. I preferred the Sterling neck over the Stingray - both sound awesome.
Agree that they're not the prettiest basses ever, but who cares..

Regards
Mark

That's the thing, you like the sound for the music you are playing. Regardless of the argument about Fenders and MMs and their quality/cost, etc. differences, they sound very different. I like Stingrays too, but for most of the stuff I play my passive Fenders sound better.

They might have gotten pigeonholed as a slap bass, I mean, the 90's had a lot of awful poopie done in the name of bass playing and a lot of it was done on a Stingray. It may be that people are thinking the Stingray is less versatile than it is, or they don't want to be the bass equivalent of someone who shows up with an Ibanez Jem or something. Or some other dated and cliched instrument associated with an out of date style.

But the Stingray is amazing, though. It's a great bass guitar.
