Music Man SUB 4 VS Sterling BY MM SUB Ray 4

Well--- I found a used Ray 4 in satin blue (its a SUB) the issues with wiring or what not dont really scare me IC an replace all that stuff easy enough --have solder will travel--- 200 bucks -- not STELLAR but its a pretty blue

will post up when it gets here -- probably Mon or Tuesday

Man. Just be patient and scour Craigslist/Kijiji. So many good buys of you are patient!

I see Ray34CA and ray34 and 35s all the time in the 450-550 Cnd all the time. USA fenders for 740 Cnd etc.

Amps too. Just scored a nice gk rb800 for $250 Cnd. USA sterling.

Sooooooo first impressions this is a SOLID -- good feeling -- great sounding bass for 2 bills---

ordered some flats for it-- but the rounds sound damn good --- 24 frets-- pickup sounds just fine-- fit n finish are good-- tuners hold--
Im happy for the $ ---

I just bought a used Music Man S.U.B. Bass (made in USA 2003) with the 2 way active on-board preamp and man, I cannot be happier!

I love the authentic StingRay sound and comfort but I also like the matte black finish. It's maybe cheap but it's cool.

It is the best StingRay I ever played - and not just for the price but overall.

Man the Musicman import line is ridiculously confusing. I can't be bothered trying to figure it all out; I keep seeing secondhand SUB basses where I live but I have no idea whether they compare to SBMM basses or what. It's just a muddle to me. I've also seen SBMM SUB basses and all sorts and I have literally no idea what is what with any of them.

Eventually I'll see if I can land a secondhand USA Stingray somewhere.

If you ever get sick of the pickguard it came with (which reminds of a manhole cover), any musicman Ray pickguard should fit in terms of the screw holes and pickup hole matching up. I bought a black pearl for my US SUB, cost me $9.

I have a USA sub. It is black with a rough non gloss finish and a painted neck. One of the big differences that I didn't see mentioned is that it's a slab body. There is a belly or forearm cut like the regular stingrays. The neck feels the same shape-wise but the paint is much different feeling then the raw maple. The best thing is the tone which is 100% authentic. I got mine for $200!! It's my school bass that I use for teaching. Great value but please don't ever pay anything above $500. At that point you are probably closer to a nice used US sterling or stingray. I got my 91 sterling and fretless sterling HS for $650. Bought my 2008 LE fretless sterling 5 for $950!!! Keep searching!
