The line remained unchanged except for the decal, so there is no difference. My guess is they added the dots to make sure the people know that the bass is not “sub standard”, but instead a “sports utility bass”.

I love mine, plays very well. A tad heavy but nothing a good strap couldn't fix. These used to go for abou $400-500 a few years a go. Definitely pick this instead of the SBMM if you ever get a chance.
congrats! You own one of the best basses ever made. I'm not exaggerating. Incredible, VERY solid, VERY strong, VERY reliable, bass. pots etc are high quality usa. everything is solid good steel and brass etc where it should be. they sound and play amazingly. and you have the sterling variant? that's extremely rare and very sought after by those in the know.... I owned two of the 5 string stringray variety, one stock fretless, one fretted... and they were just incredible.
Yup, it is unfortunate. I believe the EBMM Sterling was named after Ernie Ball’s son, Sterling, who is still with the company.

I love mine. It’s the only bass I own anymore, and I’m not getting rid of it. It’s on par with (and in some ways better than) any stingray I’ve owned.
Great find, they usually weight a bit too much but we heard of some that were actually really lightweight.

amazing instruments. I have one from the same year. BEM neck to die for. Interestingly it sells way less than the stingray yet they keep it around. Probably because it bears the owners name. Either way I’m glad they still make them.
I would be more likely to buy a 2021 EBMM Sterling if the offered it in a Special version with the same lightweight hardware as the StingRay Special.
From what I understand the specials are not so light anymore. And even when they were first introduced, once in a while you would find a turd that weighed 9 1/2 pounds. And just to be clear, I think a 9 1/2 pound bass is a perfectly easy wait to deal with. That’s light to me in fact. But when you are marketing them at about 8 pounds, there is quite a bit of a spread there.

That price is about what they were new.
My 1st Special5 HH with ebony fb was just over 9 1/2 lbs. My Special5H with rosewood fb just purchased last month is just over 8 1/2 lbs. Not bad at all for a 5 string. It is my lightest bass . Weighs less than my Jazz and P both 4 strings.
yes I was referring g to the 4 strings that were billed at around 8 lbs.
