Music Stores in NYC?

Well not sure where to post this exactly but I tend to default to this part of the forum when I am reading.

First off I turned 61 today. And yes I am still rocking 2-3 gigs a month even at this advanced age. I just joined a new band of 40 somethings and they have no idea how old I am ha ha ha. I have my second gig with them this weekend :)

Any who my fab wife is taking me to the big apple for a very long weekend starting Thursday of this week. We are going to see the Rock of Ages Broadway show.

OK the drift of this is where should I go for music shops. I bet you can guess I play bass and like most of us I do sound as well. I know where and will got to Sam Ash and Guitar Center but where else should I go? I want to see it all as far as stores so brothers out there please help.

Thanks

Check out Rudy's, Rivington, 30th Street and Ludlow for certain. I'm doing this quickly and I'm sure I've missed a few. There has been a lot of consolidation over the years. A web search usually brings up Manny's. They got bought out and are now part of Sam Ash. The Sam Ash in LA is actually a lot better and has better gear.
If you're downtown visit the Warwick Shop down on 7th. Call ahead to let them know you're coming. Eye candy galore plus great people.
If you're into vintage gear check out Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island. Don't let the name scare you it's mostly guitars with some vintage basses. They are the go-to shop in NYC for high end artists. Link Removed
If you have time go check out Sadowsky in LI City - about an hour from downtown. While out there check out The Music Zoo. On your way back go through Brooklyn and see Fodera. You'll need to call ahead the day before to schedule a visit.
If your wife doesn't mind a drive why not visit Woodstock? The area has many builders like Veillette and Spector. Ned Steinberger used to be in Newburg, on the way, but he's moved to Nashville.
If you've got the time and means to get there then visit NJ Guitar & Bass Center. Again, higher end used and new here. http://www.newjerseyguitarandbasscenter.com/
Most importantly, have fun, enjoy the city and enjoy the show! The basses will always be there.
