I was also thinking of the classic and the sterling but after the discount this bass was only $30 more so I went for it. I like the roasted neck, I play a lot of out door shows so hopefully this will stay in tune better going from cold to warm to cold as I take breaks through the night.

I've had basses w/ a gloss and satin finish, and IMO the roasted style is a good compromise between the two. It's not "unfinished" like my maple neck, but it's not "overly" glossy to where you get that "sticky" feeling.

First off,if I were you,I'd go with buying USED!! Another idea,check out the "for sale" section on this site. The vast majority of these guys/gals take VERY,VERY GOOD CARE OF THEIR GEAR. You can get some smokin' deals off some of these gear whores on here.

One wish of mine that I'd love to see Mr.Ernie offer: The electronics that's available on the Bongo Basses. Offer them on ALL of the basses that Ernie Ball produces. I'd leap at the chance for a Sterling Bass with the 4-Band EQ. That'd make my day!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there's such a thing as a bad or problematically limited EBMM bass. You pretty much cannot go wrong with any of them, when it comes to a bass that plays well and sounds professional and versatile.

I have an old-school '95 Sterling H that sounds terrific and can sound a lot of different ways with the 3-band EQ. The only limitation of the H is in where I can rest my thumb. I've always thought of the Sterling as the Fender Jazz of the EBMM lineup - punchy, a little compressed, fast-playing neck.

The Stingray you chose looks like a terrific bass. Love the look of those roasted necks. Hope you enjoy the heck out of it.
