I was trying to record a quick clip but I don't have any recording gear. I thought I still had a USB interface lying around... cell phone does no justice but this statement pretty much sums it up. It sounds pretty much like a '78 Ray. I do notice a small difference. Maybe just because the Ray had that massive bridge with string through body which is now a top loaded p bridge. The body of the Stingray was a bit bigger as well. Anyways @mbell75 pretty much summed it up bahah

Given that Leo designed the P bass, and then the Ray, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the initial prototypes of the Sting Ray looked pretty much like your new creation - us Engineers like to work out the guts, then once that's figured out, change the look to where it won't result in a trademark fight over the shape.

I'd just love to hear the comments of bassists at your shows... The first thing I do every show is try to check out the gear...

You should be getting a lot of... "hey what is that thing anyway"s

It's called a P bass, because the name "Precision" derived from the fact it was a bass with frets.

It's not called a P bass because the pickup looks vaguely like the letter "P".

I'd say the fact that you have the body, and neck of a Precision, makes it at least equally as "Precision" as it is "Stingray"...

But good on you, for being sensitive to the ways people get triggered these days.

Maybe I should think about changing the title of that thread about push-buttons, I started on the forum for Triggers.

Haha yeah we played a show Saturday night with 4 other bands. It was the first time I played out with it. The looks when I pulled it out were pretty good. A couple of them were pretty skeptical until they heard it. I got a lot of interest in it throughout the night though.

I'd highly recommend it! I have a Matt Freeman P with an MFD in it (passive, parallel/series/singlecoil switchable) and it sounds amazing. Definitely a more aggressive bass, but scope to dial it back a bit, for sure.

Was lucky enough to get it modded used, seller did a good job with the pickguard. Best thing about it, it's completely reversible if I want to switch back to a standard P.
