Mustang Bass for Reggae?

I played the Ibanez (34" scale) with LaBella flats tonight (not reggae), and the sound- even the feel- was nailing it. Very lo-fi, very plain; a solid "Thunk". I could really nail the string and that's all it did. It opened up a bit when I hit it hard like that, but it stayed within bounds and was very funky.

Did the P-Bass with flats thing, awesome. I like the LaBellas. Reggae tomorrow night...

I could also get hold of an Icon Series Hofner. That or even the "Rogue' version (gets slammin' reviews) could do a close job... but the Mustang that's available is an older one, and in my mind that is meaningful. Call me a sap...

Prior to the Mustang/Bronco Frankenstein I posted above I used a Brice "Beatle" style bass. And I still do at times. It kicks serious bottom.

Rondo Music has a Brice Beatle, and a couple other lower priced shorties like it. Anyway I'm decided to lose a bass (a long scale I'm not in love with) for the cause. I'll probably end up going a cheep route, so those hollow-body Beatle-types are contending at this point. I'll also be looking in to Subway Guitars on Monday.

They get a good, deep, very P-like tone. I'm sure it'd work well.

The ones I've played seemed just as well defined as the 34" scale basses next to them.

I just got a lakland short scale hollowbody which will be great for reggae. I have played a pawn shop mustang at GC and I think that would be fine too, though the one I played was a bit heavier than I prefer.
